Setup for a long, straight shot just within your capabilities.

Play a stun shot, stopping the cue ball exactly at the point of impact.

Now repeat the drill using less power on each shot. You are trying to find out how SOFTLY you can make the same shot that you started with, while still stopping the cue ball and sinking the object ball.

This is the most efficient stroke you can make. In other words, the softer you can hit the ball, the more control you have.

To do so requires a smooth stroke (no stabbing action), you must stay "through" the shot and stay "through" the shot.

This shot is at the heart of all cue sports, the idea being to "go through the white ball" as if it were not there.

Practice trying to imagine the cue tip is going to hit the object ball (not the cue ball) but stay within your posture. The idea is if the cue left your hand it would hit the object ball.
